MAC has contracted PHI Preventing Harm Initiative, training and education services to deliver an extensive range of training session for our network members.

MAC Is providing these sessions to support our Service Provider Networks to participate and gain skills and knowledge in important, best practice information, training and systems development In the aged care sector.

Do you know how to write a useful care and support plan that meets quality standards? This course will show you how to achieve this and provide better care and prevent incidents.

PHI (Preventing Harm Initiative) will be delivering the training.

PHI is an innovative, interactive and competency-based and e-learning training provider using highly visual, interactive and relevant to your target learners. PHI has a wealth of experience ranging from front-line to upper-level management across the Aged Care, Health, Quality, Disability and International Aid sectors.

Course outcomes:

Part 1: E-learning (self-paced online module)
Duration: 1 hour
1. Know best practice criteria for care and support planning, including how to ensure the process is culturally safe and supports people with impaired decision making
2. Understand the requirements of the Quality Standards
3. Be aware of staff responsibilities
4. Know the role of risk assessment to identify the need for further assessments and referrals
5. Learn how to complete a Care and Support Plan that is person-centered,
individualised, supports choice and reduces risks
6. See examples of how to complete a Plan review/re-assessment


Part 2: Instructor Led Training (ILT) via Zoom
Duration: 2 hours
Pre-requisite: Must have completed Part 1 E-Learning
1. Refresh knowledge of best practice and Quality Standard requirements
2. Practice case studies of identifying further assessment needs and writing risk management strategies in the plan
3. Build and consolidate skills
4. Discuss decision making in plan reviews/re-assessment
