MAC Returns to Wudinna, Whyalla and Port Lincoln
As part of Multicultural Aged Care (MAC) Partners in Culturally Appropriate Care (PICAC) program in SA, 3 staff spent a week in August travelling to regional areas across the Yorke and Eyre Peninsula . We visited Residential Aged Care facilities in regional towns, met with CALD community members to discuss needs and strategies to assist and presented sessions on Cultural Awareness, Navigating the National Ageing and Aged Care Strategy for people of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Backgrounds and MAC Services and Resources including our mobile library resources.
We visited Ardrossan, Maitland, Whyalla, Port Lincoln, Wudinna, Port Augusta, Laura, Jamestown, and Clare.
Our multicultural library and cultural resources were very popular with the Residential Aged Care facilities, with many borrowing cultural activities kits, cultural understanding books and manuals, cultural games, cooking books and armchair travel videos to assist in supporting CALD Community members and families.
Our community engagement in Whyalla and Port Lincoln with members of the Italian, Polish Croatian and Greek communities and members of multicultural representative associations was very informative.
The Cultural Awareness session in a residential care facility in Port Lincoln was well received by staff including carers nurses and lifestyle coordinators. In Wudinna at the Regional Planning Forum meeting organised by the East Coast Collaborative Project the session and Presentation about Navigating the National Ageing and Aged Care Strategy for people of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Backgrounds and the challenges ahead initiated much lively discussion amongst members.
Our Regional trips assist MAC in providing support and services to regional services to support the ongoing delivery of culturally appropriate care to older people from CALD communities, enhancing cultural understanding and supporting the urgent and priority need that older people from CALD communities require targeted and responsive aged and community care information and services.
