DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n  \nUnderstanding Culture Beyond Language \nExploring the many ways culture shapes how people experience ageing\, care and connectionLanguage is only one part of culture. Every older person brings a unique set of values\, beliefs\, traditions and life experiences that influence how they view health\, make decisions\, build relationships and engage with care.This CQ Series session explores the many dimensions of culture beyond spoken language\, including family roles\, religion and spirituality\, migration experiences\, food\, customs and personal identity. Participants will reflect on how recognising these influences can strengthen culturally responsive\, person-centred care and support meaningful interactions with older people from diverse backgrounds.Learning OutcomesBy the end of this session\, participants will be able to: \n\n\nRecognise that culture extends beyond language and influences many aspects of an older person’s care experience.\nIdentify how values\, beliefs\, family roles\, traditions and migration experiences may shape preferences\, communication and decision-making.\nApply practical strategies to provide culturally responsive care that respects each person’s identity\, dignity and choices.\nReflect on their own assumptions and identify opportunities to strengthen culturally safe practice in everyday care.\n\nTarget AudienceAll aged care staff including support workers\, care staff\, coordinators and volunteers working across residential\, home care and community care settings.
